Blog #4: November - What to do during Christmas Holiday

The December month is a joyous one. First we have Sinterklaas on December 5th and then we’re counting down the days until Christmas and New Year’s Eve. December is a dark month, but all of the twinkling lights make up for it. In short, we can’t wait until Christmas arrives. From December 21st up to and including January 5th, it’s Christmas holiday in Holland.

In the end, everyone is hoping for the same thing: a white Christmas. It’s something we’ve been hoping for a while now. The last time was nine years ago, so it’s about time. The Rottemeren covered in snow is an image you won’t forget quickly. The hiking trails stay the same, but might even be more fun. But there’s something else we’re all hoping for. Yes, I’m talking about the famous Elfstedentocht. The last one dates back to 1997. Twenty two years ago. We came close a couple times, but unfortunately it fell through. People in this region also hope for a lot of ice. Luckily the Rotte needs a lot less ice to be covered completely, which makes for a stunning image. A 400-meter ice rink at the Roerdomp and the Molentocht and a 10-kilometer lap that you can skate. That’s also been a while. A man can dream. And unfortunately, dreaming doesn’t really do us any good.

De Koornmolen is a lovely place to relax during the Christmas holidays. There’s plenty to do in the region where we don’t need to hope for a bit of ice. We’ve listed some of the activities below to make your stay at De Koornmolen even more enjoyable.

Silverdome Zoetermeer

For anyone who can’t wait for iced lakes, Silverdome is an excellent alternative. You can do more than just skate at this indoor ice skating rink. There’s ice hockey, curling and many other activities. The rink has extended opening hours during the Christmas holidays.
